The Manual Deep Well Microplate Loader is very simple to use. The wells of a one ml deep well microplate are filled to the top with beads. A 'receiving' two ml deep well microplate is positioned, up-side-down, over the filled one ml microplate and the pair is manually inverted. The two well microplate is now loaded with exactly one ml of beads in each well. To facilitate this "fill and flip" method, a stainless steel frame is used to assure accurate positioning of the 'donor' microplate to the 'receiving' microplate. Also included is a unique tray designed to catch and recover excess beads, a spatula and a one ml 'donor' microplate.
Of the three bead loaders we offer the Suction-type 96-well, deep well Microplate Bead Loader is the fastest. Beads are loaded into 96 deep well microplates at a rate of about 10 microplates per minute. It is limited to loading sherical glass or ceramic beads only (i.e., not irregularly shaped particles or steel beads). The loader delivers a 0.4 ml load of beads to each well and is compatible with all 96-well, deep well microplates. Included is a 96-nozzle loading manifold, a hand held 110 VAC electrical suction unit and an on/off foot switch.

The BioPulverizer quickly fragments hard frozen tissue samples into tiny pieces the size of grains of sand or course powder. The primary benefit of pulverizing pieces of tissue is to optimize subsequent rapid and complete cell lysis using lytic solutions or mechanical homogenizers. The BioSqueezer is used to snap freeze (quickly freeze) 10-100 mg of soft animal and human tissue. Fresh tissue is compressed into a thin disc about the size of a small coin under the pressure of a stainless steel clamp head that has been pre-cooled in liquid nitrogen or dry ice. Freezing occurs in a few milliseconds, thus giving a snapshot of metabolic events in the cells. The hard frozen disc is easily fragmented or ground without thawing for subsequent extraction of labile nucleic acids, proteins and intracellular metabolite products.

The CryogenicTissueGrinder is a high speed blade mill that grinds 0.5-10 grams of plant, animal and human tissue with high water content to a fine powder in the presence of dry ice. The tissue becomes brittle at solid CO2 temperatures. A sample hit with a hammer (or in the case of the CTG111, a spinning blade) fragments into tiny pieces in a matter of seconds.

A low cost, disposable, tissue disperser for up to 100 mg samples of soft tissue (e.g., liver, brain and muscle). The Dueling Syringes™ tissue disperser is a significant improvement over the classic "syringe-needle-syringe" method of tissue dispersion. The needle is replaced with an embedded 500 micron stainless steel screen inside a 1 ml polycarbonate syringe. Manual passage of the sample back and forth through the screen is fast, gentle and efficient. Sold as a pack of five pairs of syringes.
Ideal for a one step preparation of cell lysate from most fruits and vegetables. Suitable tissues include tubers, squash, leafy tissues, fruits and pods. One of the few methods that do not require added liquid to obtain a cell free extract. Consequently, the highly concentrated proteins and biochemicals in the homogenate optimize down-stream purification or analysis steps. Not suitable for extracting animal tissue.
The meat grinder reduces fresh muscle and animal organ tissue to piece about 1 mm in cross section. The cutting action is much like that of a pair of scissors. During this gentle dispersion process a high proportion of the tissue cells remain intact and viable. This classic tool has two applications in the molecular biology area: 1) Preparing large amounts tissue (100- >1 kg) for subsequent fast and complete cell lysis using a beadbeater, ultrasonicator, rotor-stator machine or high shear press and 2) recovering large quanties of viable single cells following incubation of the dispersed tissue with proteolytic enzymes that digest extracellular matrix.
