The BioSpec Mini-Beadbeater-Plus™ is a compact high-energy bead mill homogenizer engineered for rapid biological sample disruption, tissue homogenization, microbial cell lysis, and nucleic acid extraction workflows.

The system violently agitates up to approximately 0.5 grams of biological material sealed inside a 2 mL screw-cap microvial containing glass, zirconia, or steel bead media. This bead beating process rapidly disrupts microorganisms, plant tissues, and animal tissues in as little as 5 to 90 seconds.

The Mini-Beadbeater-Plus™ is widely used in molecular biology, microbiology, genomics, proteomics, environmental testing, and laboratory research applications requiring rapid DNA extraction, RNA isolation, protein recovery, and tissue homogenization.

Because homogenization occurs entirely within sealed disposable microvials, cross-contamination between samples is effectively eliminated, making the system especially valuable for sensitive nucleic acid isolation and PCR workflows.

The sealed-vial processing method also minimizes foaming and aerosol formation during homogenization, helping preserve functional enzymes, membranes, intracellular organelles, viruses, and bacteria during sample preparation.

In addition to wet homogenization applications, the Mini-Beadbeater-Plus™ is commonly used for dry grinding and cryogenic grinding workflows.

Using high-density zirconia or steel bead media together with reinforced breakage-resistant microvials, the system can rapidly pulverize hard materials including hair, bone, teeth, seeds, minerals, and frozen biological samples in approximately 5 to 30 seconds.

Protocols developed using the Mini-Beadbeater-Plus™ are generally transferable to larger-capacity Mini-Beadbeater systems with minimal modification, simplifying laboratory scale-up and workflow standardization.
