Description
BioSpec chrome steel lysis beads are designed for demanding bead beating, dry grinding, and biological sample disruption applications requiring high-density grinding media and maximum mechanical impact energy.
With a density of 7.9 g/cc, chrome steel beads are highly effective for homogenization and disruption of very tough tissues including dry plant materials, seeds, fibrous samples, hair, and other difficult-to-process biological materials.
Chrome steel beads are commonly used with bead beaters, tissue homogenizers, and high-energy laboratory grinding systems for sample preparation, molecular biology workflows, and tough tissue disruption applications.
- Listed bead sizes represent median average diameters. Because beads are precision sorted using industrial sieves, actual bead size may vary approximately +/-10% from the listed value.
- When performing dry grinding or cryogenic grinding using high-energy bead beating systems, standard 2 mL polypropylene microvials may crack or fail due to the impact force generated by dense steel bead media.
For these applications, BioSpec recommends using our 2 mL stainless steel microvials with silicone rubber caps or our 2 mL XXTuff reinforced polypropylene screw-cap microvials for improved durability and performance.
