Beadbeating (bead milling) is the preferred laboratory method for disruption of cells to recover intracellular proteins, nucleic acids and organelles. It's fast, efficient and and safe.
First to introduce this method of cell disruption to the R&D laboratory in 1979, BioSpec Products now produces seven different models of beadbeater. Each is optimized for different sample size and capacity. Depending on the model chosen, 20 to 2000 samples can easily be processed in an afternoon. The models can be divided into three catagories based on the way the beads are agitated:
The NEW SoniBeast™ bead mill uses a new, patent-pending bead mixing technology. It delivers much faster cell disruption (up to 10X) compared to conventional bead mill-type cell disrupters and can process smaller samples. The SoniBeast's capacity is twelve 0.6 ml microtubes or six 2 ml microvials.
There are four models of MiniBeadbeater™ cell disrupter. All use standard 3/4" - 1", back-and-forth shaking patterns and deliver protcol-compatibity within the group. The µ-MBB, MBB-16 and MBB-25 use 2 or 7 ml microvials. The high through-put MBB-96 holds one or two deep well microplates or a rack of 48 mcrovials. Acceptible sample sizes range from 1 mg to 1.5 g (wet weight) of tissue or packed cells. MiniBeadbeaters shaking energies equal or exceed all competitive brands of shaking-type bead mill.
This larger capacity BeadBeater™ processes 10-80 g (wet weight) of microorganisms or monocellular plant or animal cells. It uses a rotor to agitate the beads within a chamber. It is frequently used to disrupt cells for production of native or expressed intracellular proteins. The rotor-type method of bead milling easily scales up to pilot plant and production levels.

The best laboratory-scale homogenizer for disrupting aqueous suspensions of yeast or bacteria. The BeadBeater comes complete with everything you need with a 350 ml polycarbonate chamber, rotor assembly, motor base, ice-water cooling jacket and one pound of glass beads.
Indicate your glass bead size choice by adding -101, -105 or -110 (which is 0.1, 0.5, or 1.0 mm diameter) to the end of the catalog number (example: 1107900-105). If you require a european/asian 230 VAC unit, please select a model that ends in -EUR.
The µ-MiniBeadbeater is an entry-level, small sample cell disruptor and grinder. Disruption performance is fully comparable to our other MBB models. The Mini-Beadbeater-24 disrupts up to 24 microbial or tissue samples with better than 95 percent efficiency. Cells are disrupted quickly and safely in the sealed system. The apparatus is easy to clean, has a small footprint and is essentially maintenance free. Compared to the Minibeadbeater-16, this Beadbeater adds advanced electronics for enhanced motor function, continuous variable shaking speeds of 2000-3800 strokes/min, a 30% increase in microvial capacity and CE certification.

The Mini-Beadbeater-96 is high-energy, high-throughput cell disrupter. In a single 1-3 minute batch run it handles up to 192 samples using a deep-well microplate format or 45 samples in 1.5 or 2 ml screw-cap microvials. In a busy day thousands of samples can be processed.

The NEW SoniBeast™ cell disruptor completely disrupts small samples of tissue or cells in seconds rather than minutes. It holds up to twelve 0.6 ml PCR microtubes each containing 1-100 mg of sample, or six 2 ml microvials each containing 10-400 mg sample.
Other applications for this high speed bead mill are fine grinding non-biological materials (nanoparticles, catalysts, magnetic media or pigments, etc.).
A sample pack of 0.6 ml locking PCR tubes is included with the SoniBeast. Please order Beads and additional Vials separately.
